What the Repost button does and who sees it

The Repost button shares another creator's video with people connected to you, such as your friends and followers, without uploading a copy, so the original creator keeps the views and credit. Reposts can show up in their feeds and on a tab of your profile, depending on your settings.

Sharing without stealing

When you tap Repost, the video is not re-uploaded to your account. TikTok simply shows the original post to some of the people connected to you, with a small label saying you reposted it.

That is very different from downloading a clip and posting it as your own. The creator keeps every view, like and follow that comes from your repost.

Who actually sees your reposts

Reposts are mainly shown to your friends and followers, often in their Following or Friends feeds, and may appear on a reposts tab on your profile. Exactly where they show up has changed over time.

Remember that a repost is a public signal. If you repost something embarrassing at 2am, your cousin, your boss or your old classmate may see it.

Why people use it

Reposting is a quick way to say "you need to see this" to everyone at once, instead of sending the same video to ten chats. Creators also repost collaborations or videos that mention them.

For small businesses, reposting happy customer videos is a simple, honest way to share social proof, as long as the customer posted it publicly.

Removing a repost and controlling visibility

If you change your mind, you can usually go back to the video and tap the Repost option again to remove it. Your reposts tab on your profile is a quick place to review them.

Check your privacy settings for options about who can see your reposts or whether the tab appears at all. Settings names move around, so look in the current app.

Frequently asked questions

Does the creator get notified when I repost?

Creators may see reposts in their notifications or activity, depending on current app behaviour. Assume the creator can find out that you shared their video.

Is a repost the same as a Duet or Stitch?

No. A repost shares the original video unchanged, while Duets and Stitches create a new video that combines your footage with theirs.
