A drafts workflow that stops ideas getting lost

Most creators have dozens of drafts they will never post, partly because the drafts folder is hard to manage. A simple workflow turns it into a queue instead of a graveyard.

Know where drafts live

TikTok drafts are stored on your phone, not in your account. Deleting the app, clearing its data or switching phones can wipe them.

Before anything risky, save each draft to your device: open it, go to the post screen and turn on saving to device, or post it privately (Only me) as a backup.

Write the caption immediately

Add the caption and hashtags when you save the draft, even if they are rough. The caption is the fastest way to remember what a draft was for, because the drafts grid only shows a small thumbnail.

Start captions with a tag like [READY], [NEEDS VO] or [NEEDS B-ROLL] so you can see the status at a glance.

Keep the folder short

Once a week, go through drafts: post what is ready, finish what is close, and delete what you no longer care about. A folder of ten live drafts is useful; two hundred is noise.

Keep raw clips in your phone gallery or editing app project instead of as TikTok drafts when you are still deciding.

Plan with a list outside the app

A simple note or spreadsheet with idea, status and planned date makes it obvious what to post next. The drafts folder then only holds finished or almost-finished videos.

Frequently asked questions

Are TikTok drafts saved to my account?

No, drafts are stored on your phone. Deleting the app, clearing its data or switching phones can wipe them, so save important drafts to your device or post them privately first.

How can I tell what each draft is for at a glance?

Write the caption when you save the draft and start it with a status tag such as [READY], [NEEDS VO] or [NEEDS B-ROLL], since the drafts grid only shows small thumbnails.

How often should I clean out my drafts folder?

Once a week: post what is ready, finish what is close and delete what you no longer care about. Ten live drafts are useful, two hundred are just noise.
