How to download TikTok videos on iPhone without an app

iPhone does not need a shortcut, a profile, or anything from the App Store to save a TikTok. What it does need is one extra step that catches people out: Safari puts downloads in Files, not in Photos.

The steps

Open the video in TikTok, tap Share, then Copy link. Switch to Safari, open a downloader page, and paste the link into the box. Choose a format, and the file downloads.

A small arrow appears near the address bar while a download is running. Tapping it shows the finished file.

Getting the video into Photos

This is the step most guides leave out. The file is in the Files app, under Downloads, and your camera roll will not show it until you move it there.

Open Files, find the video, tap it, then tap Share and choose Save Video. It appears in Photos immediately. The file is on your phone either way — it is just not in the gallery until you do this.

Why iOS asks about the clipboard

Tapping a Paste button makes iOS ask whether the page may read what you copied. That prompt comes from iOS, not from the site, and it is a good thing: it means no page can silently read your clipboard.

You can allow it, or ignore it and paste manually by holding the field and choosing Paste. Both work. If a site claims to have pasted something after you refused, be suspicious — it cannot have.

Why not use a shortcut or an app

Shortcuts work, but they need installing, they break when the underlying service changes, and a shortcut from an unknown source can do far more than download a video.

Apps in this category tend to ask for more access than the job needs. A browser page cannot read your photos or your contacts, which is a meaningful difference when the task is as small as saving one video.

If it does not work

Check that you copied a video link and not a profile link, and that the post is public. Private, deleted and age-restricted videos cannot be fetched by anything, because there is nothing readable to fetch.

On older iOS versions the download manager in Safari behaves differently. iOS 13 and later handle this without anything extra.
