Privacy policy

This page describes what actually happens when you use the site. It is written against the code rather than from a template, and where our hosting provider sees something we do not control, it says so.

There are no accounts

You cannot sign up, and there is nothing to log into. We hold no name, email address or password for you, because we never collect one.

The links you paste

A link is used to fetch the video and is then discarded. We do not build a history of what you have downloaded, and we cannot show you one.

What we do keep is the result: for six hours after a video is first requested, its public metadata — title, author, thumbnail, available formats — is cached so a second request for the same video is fast. That cache is keyed by a hash of the video ID and contains nothing about who asked for it.

Short share links are remembered for longer, up to seven days, because they are permanent redirects and re-following them every time is wasted work. Again, only the link and where it points, never who followed it.

Your IP address

Your IP address is used for one thing: keeping any single source from overwhelming the service, currently capped at 30 requests a minute.

It is not stored as an IP. It is hashed with SHA-256 and truncated before it becomes a lookup key, and that key expires on its own within a couple of minutes. There is no way to work backwards from what we hold to the address it came from.

What our host sees

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the requests reaching it — including your IP address — in order to serve them, and it retains its own operational logs under its own policies. That is outside our control, and it would be true of any hosting provider.

We have request observability enabled on our Worker, which means Cloudflare records timing and error information about requests. Our own error logging is deliberately narrow: it records what kind of failure happened and which parsing layer reported it, and never the link you submitted or your IP address.

Storage in your browser

One preference is saved locally: whether you chose light or dark mode. It stays in your browser, is never sent to us, and clearing your site data removes it.

We do not use cookies for analytics or advertising.

Files you download

Video and audio files are streamed through our server to your device and are not retained afterwards. We do not keep copies of the media you download.

Third parties

When our primary methods of reading a public post fail, a request may be passed to a third-party resolver as a last resort. In that case the video link is shared with that service; your IP address and browser headers are not.

If advertising is introduced on this site in future, this page will be updated to name the provider and say what it collects before it goes live.

Children

This service is not directed at children, and since we collect no personal information from anyone, we hold none belonging to a child.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in substance, the date at the top of this page changes with it.

Questions about anything here can be sent to the address on the contact page.
